“From Barbells to Spruce Grouse, a 50-year journey of Land Conservation”
Land O’ Lakes Library is excited to host local author and conservationist, Joe Hovel.
Joe Hovel has been involved in land conservation, dedicating his time to sustainable forestry and tirelessly advocating for land. He has been instrumental in acquiring and transferring a tremendous amount of land for conservation, benefiting the public environmentally, socially, economically and intrinsically. Joe’s family now owns over 3,500 acres of land, which they manage and is protected through the Forest Legacy Program.
We will also discuss the new Headwaters Cedar Community Forest in the Town of Land O Lakes. More information can be found at the website: https://www.northwoodalliance.org/hccf
Joe, as lead author and organizer of the Northwoods Forest Conservation Handbooks has followed up with a recent memoir: “From Barbells to Spruce Grouse-a 50-Year Journey of Land Conservation”.
In this presentation, Joe will talk about his book and also his experiences with preserving our woods, our waters and our wildlife. He will talk about his struggles, his roadblocks and ultimately his triumphs.
It is free and open to the public and will be in our community room in the lower level. Joe will have his book for sale and will be autographing them. Light refreshments will be served.
